Glendale Civic Auditorium
Glendale, California (December 8, 2009) – Former IBF Light Middleweight World Champion Roman “Made in Hell” Karmazin (39-3-1, 25KOs) looks to continue his ascent in the Middleweight division when he takes on Columbian knock out specialist Dionisio “Mister Knockout” Miranda (20-4-2, 18KOs) for the right to challenge for the IBF Middleweight World Title. The 12 round main event will headline GLENDALE GLORY 2 at the Glendale Civic Auditorium on Friday, January 8, 2010 and will be broadcast LIVE on the 2010 season premiere of ESPN2’s “Friday Night Fights.”
Karmazin, fighting out of Los Angeles by way of St. Petersburg, Russia, won his first World Title by dominating then IBF Light Middleweight Champion Kasim “The Dream” Ouma in 2005. With Hall of Fame trainer Freddy Roach in his corner and recent victories over former World Title holder Bronco McKart and World Title challenger Antwun Echols, Karmazin looks to show the world that he deserves the right to challenge for the IBF World Middleweight Title.
Standing in Karmazin’s way and looking to make a statement with his third appearance fighting on ESPN, Dioniso Miranda would want nothing more than to land his signature right hand and earn a shot at the IBF World Middleweight Title. Having lost a tough fought decision to undefeated prospect Peter “Kid Chocolate” Quillin, the Columbian later accepted a fight on short days notice and traveled to Quebec, Canada where he claimed the vacant NABA Middleweight Title from hometown hero Sebastian Demers.
In the co-main event, former World Heavyweight Champion Shannon “The Cannon” Briggs (49-5-1, 43Kos) looks to get back in the Heavyweight Title contention and capture his 50th Win as a professional. After losing the Heavyweight Championship to then undefeated Sultan Ibragimov in 2007, Briggs made his first ring appearance two and half years this December and scored his twenty-ninth first round knockout in spectacular fashion. At this point in his boxing career, Briggs wants nothing more than to bring the Heavyweight Championship back to America. "I don't feel my career is fulfilled until I knock out the Klitschkos for the count!"
In a special feature, Mexican slugger Jose “Shibata” Flores (43-10, 25Kos) makes his return to the ring after a successful stint as a singer to campaign at the Middleweight division. The always entertaining Flores has fought some of the toughest fighters over the past sixteen years including former World Champions Verno Phillips, Fernando Vargas, Raul Marquez, and Vince Phillips.
The Glendale Glory 2 undercard will feature several undefeated prospects including Prenice Brewer (13-0), Art Hovanessian (10-0), Ismayl Sillakh (9-0), Khabir Suleymanov (9-0), Jesus Selig (10-0), Max Skayzer (7-0-1), as well as WBC Ranked Heavyweight Andrey Fedosov (20-1) and local favorites Gabriel Tolmajyan (6-1) and Artur Bernetsyan (pro debut).
GLENDALE GLORY 2 is presented by Art of Boxing Promotions in association with Bash Boxing, Elite Boxing, Rumble Time Promotions, Glendale Fighting Club, and Alfredo Marchio. GLENDALE GLORY 2 will mark the second professional boxing show since a 62-year-old ban on boxing in the City of Glendale has been lifted.
