After a 15-year successful boxing career, Kahren Harutyunyan, former professional North American Boxing Organization (NABO) Jr. Bantamweight Champion, proudly announces the formation of Art of Boxing Promotions.

Harutyunyan started boxing when he was ten. He learned the fundamentals quickly and moved up the amateur ranks in his native Armenia. After the Harutyunyan family moved to the U.S. in 1997, Kahren immediately made his presence felt. After only two years, he won the 1999 annual U.S. Open Championship at seventeen, and was also crowned the Best Boxer of the Tournament.

Without U.S. Citizenship, however, Harutyunyan could not compete for a spot on the 2000 U.S. Olympic Team, so decided to turn pro in 2000 under the tutelage of Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach.

The Roach-Harutyunyan relationship was good from day one.  They adapted to each other’s styles instantly and started to win fights as a team. Harutyunyan won the NABO Jr. Bantamweight Title in April of 2005 and was ranked among the top ten in the world.

Kahren Harutyunyan is also among the very few professional fighters who have earned a university degree while still an active boxer. In addition to earning his English degree from the University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) in June of 2006, Kahren earned his Masters Certificate from Fight Promoter University (FPU) in August of the same year. Being the first active fighter to attend FPU, the university released the following:

“To say it will be very special for me to have Kahren at FPU is an understatement," said Fight Promoter University founder Roy Englebrecht. “It's not very often that a pro fighter earns their college degree, much less two degrees in two months. But if you are current NABO Super Flyweight champion Kahren Harutyunyan, it will happen this summer. On June 18th, the 24 year old Harutyunyan will receive his Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature from UCLA, and a little over two months later on August 25th will earn his MBA degree from Fight Promoter University.”  Englebrecht adds, “To have promoted Kahren in his first three pro fights starting in 2000, and now have him coming as a student to FPU, is very humbling for me, and speaks volumes for the kind of person Kahren is."

Having managed himself for the most part of his career, Kahren also possesses practical knowledge of the boxing business. Throughout his years in the world famous Wild Card Boxing Club, Kahren has also met and learned from some of the most influential people of the sports business. Chief among them is Hall of Fame trainer Freddie Roach, whose influence in Kahren’s career will always be appreciated.

With the formation of Art of Boxing Promotions, Kahren wants to reach new heights in boxing, as a promoter, and will collaborate with Freddie Roach, who will continue his quest of training some of the most recognizable and powerful champions in the world.

Art of Boxing Promotion (AOB) will aspire to recruit and promote new talent and provide a solid platform for already established fighters. In addition, AOB Promotions will signify diversity, attracting fighters, managers, and most importantly, boxing fans from all over the world.

Based in the heart of one of the densest multicultural cities in the world, AOB Promotions will strive to showcase fighters from as many backgrounds as there are cultural communities in Los Angeles and the greater California area. Since the long list of these communities includes Mexican, Armenian, Russian, Filipino, Asian, and others, AOB is committed to developing fighters from different ethnic backgrounds and showcasing them periodically in their communities.

AOB Promotions plans to stage professional boxing shows in East and West Los Angeles, Hollywood, West and North Hollywood, Glendale, Burbank, Woodland Hills, Van Nuys, Oxnard, and other nearby cities.

AOB wants to present opportunities to ambitious fighters that don’t have corporate sponsorships or huge television deals, and are overlooked. By matching the hungriest fighters against each other, AOB wants to excite the sport’s mainstream and hardcore fans, while also attracting and developing a new fan base.

Every art form has the ability to attract people from all walks of life. Boxing should be no different.  It has a long history of connecting fighters, trainers, managers and promoters from all over the globe.
